Pattern Collection: Graphic Design
This is a collection of all of the completed pattern collections that I have designed so far. I love pattern making, so most of these collections were made for personal use rather than professional use. The only exception to this would be the Monarch Butterfly pattern, which was put on Spoonflower.com for sale for a brief period of time. (note: the Monarch Butterfly Pattern is not on display at the moment.)
In all of the provided examples, I chose to base the patterns off of different types of moths and butterflies for consistency's sake. Particularly for moths, I feel as though these types of animals do not get enough application for how beautiful they can be, so I wanted to challenge myself to create designs that would highlight how incredible they are.
For each pattern design I made a hero pattern and a repeater pattern, with either a secondary pattern or an alternate hero pattern to complete the collection. I chose to name the patterns based off of the inspiration and description of the subject.
Jungle Moths
The Jungle Moths was my earliest professional work for the pattern collections. I used an Atlas moth as the basis for this pattern. The sketches were done using a calligraphy ink pen, which gave the pattern a distinctive style in line-work.
Jeweled Bamboo Moths
This next pattern I started on shortly after the Jungle Moths, but did not finish until later. The moths featured here are not based on any one type of moth, but rather the general traits of moths with embellished accents. I used gradients heavily in this pattern collection to give it a fantastical look.
Morning Glories
The final pattern was originally supposed to feature lunar moths most prevalently, but shifted to a flora focus instead. The morning glories pattern is my favorite in terms of shape building, as they flow more naturally than the previous examples. I made two hero patterns for both a natural based pattern and a "mystic" pattern, which features more extreme colors and lunar moths.
